A guide to choosing home fragrance by format and daily use
Choose home fragrance around how you want to use it. A candle adds a visible flame while you are there to attend it. A reed diffuser releases scent continuously, and a room spray lets you decide when to add fragrance. Start with How the Room Is Used
Think about where the fragrance will sit, who shares the space and whether you want a continuous scent. A candle needs a suitable place and your attention throughout use. A reed diffuser needs a position where it will not be knocked over. For a spray, check whether the exact product is intended for air, linen or both; those uses are not interchangeable across every formula.
Choose a Fruity Candle for Time at Home

Its green textured vessel and seed-embedded paper lid add detail to a shelf or side table. DORS and the brand estimate approximately 20 hours of total burn time. That is a product-life estimate across separate uses; follow the label for each burning session and keep the paper lid clear of the flame.

Choose a Woody Candle for a Different Scent Profile

The Santal Oud Scented Candle (S$49.80 for 200 g) brings sandalwood, oud and leather notes into a teal-coloured vessel. DORS and the brand describe a coconut-and-rapeseed wax blend with a wooden wick, and list a total burn time of up to 60 hours. Choose it for those woody notes and its larger wax weight. The published duration is an estimate, and the wooden wick needs the maker’s own care instructions.

Choose a Reed Diffuser for Ongoing Fragrance
TEMPLE CANDLES
The Luxury Reed Diffuser Star Jasmine (S$98 for 250 ml) pairs jasmine, orange zest and vanilla notes with a faceted glass vessel. The listed set includes fragrance oil and both black fibre and natural rattan reeds. DORS lists an estimated duration of six to nine months; conditions in the room and how the reeds are used affect the result. A reed diffuser releases fragrance without a flame. Keep the bottle upright on a stable, protected surface, beyond the reach of children and pets, and follow its instructions when handling reeds or cleaning spills.

Choose a Room Spray When You Want to Add Scent
SUKHATARA
The Sedap Malam Probiotics-Infused Room and Linen Spray (S$31 for 60 ml) offers tuberose and lavender notes in a format you apply when needed. SUKHATARA lists air, bed linen and other fabric surfaces as intended uses, with spot-testing advised for delicate materials. Check the current label and the fabric’s care instructions first. The brand says its room and linen sprays are not intended for direct application to skin or pets.

Use the Label to Plan Each Session
For candles, the National Candle Association’s safety guidance advises a stable, heat-resistant surface, distance from flammable materials and keeping the flame out of reach of children and pets. Never leave a burning candle unattended. Let the wax cool before moving it, and follow the maker’s instructions for wick care, maximum session length and when to stop using the candle.
For reed diffusers, follow the product label for the number of reeds, turning them and dealing with spills. Keep fragrance liquid off unprotected furniture. A flameless format still needs careful placement and handling. For room sprays, follow the stated application and storage directions, and use them only on permitted surfaces.
Choose a Gift Around the Recipient
Start with a scent family the recipient already enjoys and check whether they use fragranced products at home. For someone who avoids burning candles, consider whether a diffuser or spray fits their space and preferences. Compare the stated wax weight or liquid volume as well as the price. Burn hours and diffuser months describe different uses, so they do not provide a direct value comparison.
