Choosing a Proposal Ring for Its Wearer
Choose an engagement ring by considering the wearer’s preferred shape, colour and intended use together. A distinctive design still needs the right fit and a clear plan for care. The two DORS rings below offer design references for that discussion; ask a qualified jeweller to assess the exact ring before choosing it for a proposal.
Start with the Wearer
Look at the jewellery they already choose: narrow or wide bands, a single focal point or a repeated pattern, yellow gold or another metal colour. Discuss whether they want to wear the ring daily or on selected occasions. Bring those preferences to a fitting, along with any existing ring that they plan to wear beside it.

The Treasure of the Sea Ring by Arcaza Riezelina (S$5,085) combines a rounded pearl with open gold shoulders and small diamond accents. DORS lists solid 18k gold, an 8.5 mm South Sea pearl and 0.15 ct of white diamonds. Its product description gives size HK 9.
The photograph is useful for discussing the balance between the pearl and the band. If this shape appeals, ask the jeweller to explain the pearl’s mounting, protection and care needs for the wearer’s routine. Confirm the fit and permitted resizing before committing to this design.

Colour and Pattern Around the Band
FOUNDATION JEWELLERS
The Peranakan Floral Natural Diamond and Emerald Ring (S$3,800) places green and clear stones within a repeating gold pattern. DORS lists 18K yellow gold, 0.41 ct of emeralds, 0.10 ct of natural diamonds and size HK 13. If the Peranakan reference is important to you, ask the maker about this particular design and its motifs.
Use this design to consider how much of the finger you want a ring to cover and whether you prefer a repeated pattern to one raised centre stone. Compare it on the hand and from the side. Have the jeweller assess the setting and stones for the way the ring will be worn.

Confirm the Fit and Aftercare Before Buying
Before choosing either design for a proposal, get answers for the exact ring:
- Intended use: does the jeweller support it as an engagement ring for the wearer’s routine, and what limits apply?
- Sizing: how will the correct finger be measured, and what resizing range, costs and timing are available?
- Care: what cleaning, storage, inspection and repair arrangements apply to its particular stones and setting?
- A future wedding band: can the proposed pair be tried together, and is there suitable clearance between them?
For a surprise proposal, settle the sizing and exchange or resizing arrangements with the seller before purchase. Keep the agreed specifications, terms and care instructions with the receipt.
Prices are in Singapore dollars. Confirm the current price, size and availability on the linked product page before ordering.
